Laurent is a Year 12
student at JFS. In addition to her passion for the double-bass, she also
enjoys studying the piano, and plays bass and electric guitar in a rock/indie
band called 'The Unwanted'. Additionally, Laurent has been offering the
benefit of her talents by teaching other youngsters, enabling them to pass
their exams with Merit.
The Start of a Talent
Laurent started learning the
double-bass at the age of 10, receiving tuition from David Hayes, followed
by Cathy Elliot with whom she obtained a distinction at Grade 8 in
2009. She is currently taught by Chris West through her studies at
the Royal Academy of Music.
Special Playing Memories
After some exciting musical experiences as a member of the National
Children's Orchestra, Laurent became one of the youngest members of the
National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. Her time there has
enabled her to perform with some of the great orchestral conductors at
venues and festivals including Snape Maltings and The Barbican. One
of her most memorable performances was when they took part in the Proms at
the Royal Albert Hall - 'Knowing the concert was broadcast live on BB2
only served to enhance the occasion - it was an experience I will never
forget'.
Inspiration
Whilst enjoying the classical musical elements, Laurent also draws
inspiration from a cross section of other styles, including Jimi Hendrix,
Freddie Mercury and Kurt Cobain.
The Future
Laurent hopes the future will bring an opportunity to perform a concerto
with an orchestra and a career which will enable her to combine her
passions for music and photography. |
