The Brent Young Musician of the Year Competition
This exciting initiative is organised by Brent Music Service, and has previously been an annual competition that demonstrates the musical talents held within the borough.  It is open to young musicians who live in or attend a school in the London Borough of Brent.  Auditions take place at the BMS Evening Centres from which six finalists are selected to perform at the final stage of the competition.

2010
Brent Young Musician of the Year is now a bi-annual competition to coincide with the showcase event 'Brent Makes Music' to which the winner of the competition is invited to perform as a guest soloist.

Congratulations to Indira Grier - Winner of Brent Young Musician of the Year 2010!
Following the audition rounds of over 50 performers back in early January, six finalists were selected to compete at the finals of the ‘Brent Young Musician of the Year 2010’ which took place on Thursday 25th March at Claremont High School, Kenton.

The finalists included (in order of performance): Preeti Mahankali-Rao (Double Bass), Indira Grier (cello), Rebecca Ryland-Jones (piano), Deni Teo (Cello), Timothy Crawford (Violin) and Laurent Shinar (Double Bass).

Congratulations go to all the finalists and in particular, Indira Grier, who won the overall competition performing on her cello ‘Nana’ from Suite Populaire Espagnole by Falla followed by the 1st movement of the Mendlessohn D major Cello Sonata.  Second place was awarded to Timothy Crawford on Violin and Third place to Deni Teo on cello.  Judges commented on the extremely impressive standard of musicianship these young performers demonstrated.

Taking the title of Brent Young Musician of the Year 2010, Indira was invited to appear as the special guest soloist at Wembley Arena on 8th July as part of the Brent Makes Music 2010 showcase event.
