The Brent Junior Musician of the Year Competition
This new initiative has been introduced for 2009.  Organised by Brent Music Service, it is designed to encourage the more junior musicians that benefit from music tuition from the Service.  The competition was open to all students aged 9-13 who receive tuition from Brent Music Service in their school and/or perform in one of the many music ensembles run through the Brent Music Service Evening Centres.

This will be a bi-annual competition taking place in 2009, 2011 and so on.  Competition auditions take place towards the end of the preceding year from which 8 finalists are selected to perform at the finals and compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.  The two gold medal winners will then have the opportunity to perform at a celebration concert as a guest soloist which takes place later that year.

2009
This year, Brent Music Service are delighted to announce that the finalists for the Brent Junior Musician of the Year 2009 competition are:

  • Reuben Cantacuzino – 11 (saxophone)

  • Emma Daly -13 (flute)

  • Louise Hamilton-Vickers – 13 (trumpet)

  • Leah Lovell – 10 (violin)

  • Catherine Lyons – 12 (flute)

  • Aaron Merai – 12 (euphonium)

  • Emile Misquita – 11 (trumpet)

  • Kieran Varjavand – 12 (guitar)

The finals will take place at 6.30pm on Wednesday 11th February 2009 at Queens Park Community School , Aylestone Avenue , London NW6 7AD.  The two gold medal winners will then go on to perform at the "BMS Junior Fest 2009" showcase event at Brent Town Hall on 9th July 2009.

A Difficult Decision
Deputy Head of Service, Eric Angus commented “The standard of playing was encouragingly high and it was such a delight to see so many young players making the most of an opportunity to perform in this competition.

It was by no means an easy task to decide upon the eight finalists - everyone who entered showed such courage and determination just standing up in front of the panel of judges in the first place! They all deserve huge congratulations and should enjoy their own personal achievements with their performances and preparation work, whether they were selected for the finals or not.

Tickets for the Finals
If you would like to support the finalists by attending the competition on 11th February, please contact Brent Music Service.

Tickets are free of charge, but availability is limited, so please book in advance as soon as possible.

In the meantime we offer our congratulations to everyone who competed and our special best wishes to the eight talented finalists whom we look forward to welcoming to the final competition on 11th February 2009.
