Hiring An Instrument
It's never easy knowing whether the instrument you've chosen to learn is going to be just the type that will suit you.  On top of this, instruments can sometimes be costly (please refer to the 'Which Instrument To Play' section for more details on expected instrument purchase costs).  However, Brent Music Service never wants a budding musician to miss out on the chance of learning an instrument.  So, for this reason they have devised a special Instrument Hire Scheme.

Instrument Hire Scheme - A Cost-Conscious Solution
The Instrument Hire Scheme enables students who are taking tuition from Brent Music Service to have access to a wide range of instruments of an appropriate manufacturing quality and in good repair.  The instruments can be hired on a term-by-term basis at an affordable cost and at a fraction of the price of purchasing a brand new instrument.

The Benefits
The Instrument Hire Scheme enables the student to take the instrument home for practice and look after it as if it were their own.  Not only does this mean they are given the same opportunities to improve and develop their playing as a child who owns their own instrument, it also helps to give them the responsibility of looking after the instrument properly.

Once you have been able to discuss and agree your instrument choice with your tutor, you can request an Instrument Hire Scheme form which will need to be completed and returned to the Brent Music Service office (see Contact Us).

How The Scheme Works
First you need to approach your school to ensure they have secured and have available the tuition services of Brent Music Service for your chosen instrument. Once your school agrees that you can learn your chosen instrument a request form is completed and submitted.  An instrument is then allocated to you pending receipt of the first term's hire payment.  Payments are required in advance for each term that the instrument is hired.  Upon completion of the arrangement, the instrument is supplied to the student for their use at home, at lessons in school and with the BMS Music Ensembles if a member of any.  It remains the dual responsibility of the student and their parent/guardian to ensure that the instrument is cared for and appropriately protected from damage or accident.

The instrument is entrusted to the student and their parent/guardian and any problems need to be reported immediately so that professional repairs can be carried out if necessary.

Please note that the hire of the instrument is subject to availability and an alternative instrument may be suggested as an interim solution.

Purchasing An Instrument
After an appropriate period of time of hiring, or if your circumstances enable you to start off with your own instrument, it may be suggested that an instrument purchase would be more cost-effective for you.

You are free to purchase your instrument from which ever supplier you wish.  A list of local music shops can be downloaded by [clicking here].

Normans Musical Instruments - The Preferred Supplier
In addition, Brent Music Service has built up a reliable business relationship with Normans Musical Instruments and can recommend this company as the preferred supplier of Brent Music Service, based on their value for money, quality of instruments and level of service.

By special arrangement with Brent Music Service and Brent Council, Normans are able offer good quality instruments at prices cheaper than the high street.  They are also able to offer payment options for outright purchase or an installment facility.

Further details about purchasing an instrument from Normans can be obtained from your tutor, or by contacting them direct on freefone 08000 281 415 (stating that the instrument is for a pupil of Brent Music Service to obtain your extra discount).
